We need your old mobile phone and/or charger
This is a project to collect old mobile phones and reuse them in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is a country on its knees, politically and economically. The postal service is falling apart, unemployment is high, transport links are poor. Rural people are isolated, families can’t talk, small businesses can’t trade.
Zimbabwe’s land-line system is as good as useless, however the mobile network is in good shape, it is run by South Africa.
Communication in Zimbabwe means freedom, stability, economy and family.
Send your old mobile where it is needed, where it will be loved.
Don’t dump it, chuck it or discard it; don’t leave it in a drawer.
People need your phone urgently in Zimbabwe, NOW!
So where are they going?
To church! They are going to the Gutara Mwari church in Bulawayo Zimbabwe
Why?
The best organizations in Zimbabwe these days are churches.
They are the ones exposing the atrocities the government is inflicting on its people. They can be trusted with the welfare of the people.
The Gutara Mwari church has a huge membership encompassing the whole country. The church leadership are men and women who really care, who have committed and dedicated their whole lives to the cause of saving and caring for the poor. They are the best people to be given the responsibility to find a home for your phone.
What you can do to help:
The success of this project is down to each of us. Every mobile donation will make a difference, yet the more we get involved, the more profound our collective contribution will be. So...
Collect some mobiles for us. Register to join our team by emailing us at info@lifelinezimbabwe.com and start collecting phones now. Keep us updated on how many phones you have collected and we'll inform you of the next step. We're currently exploring several options to get them to Zimbabwe. We will send you regular updates on our combined achievements.
Ask around your family, friends and colleagues, print out the LIFELINE ZIMBABWE statement from the website and put a collection container in your workplace, in your children's school or your local pub/cafe etc.
Spread the word - Send an email to everyone you know - tell them about the project and ask them for their support.
Get creative - contact us with your ideas about how to take this project to the next level.
